The indicator ticked as we turned into a long straight driveway. Green leaved blossom trees lined the way to the property. I had not slept since leaving New Zealand and had not gotten used to the time zone yet. The expensive car rolled to a stop under a sign saying Wild Dreams Ranch. I sighed when i looked out the window of the car, My foster parents where rich and this new land showed just how rich they were, massive paddocks of lush grass, so big that if you stood in the middle you still couldn't see the sides divided by wooden fences. The fences where about 3 meters high with the top edge of the top rail painted white, perfect for wild horses. there where Four large horse barns all perfectly decorated, just like the stables at the academy, the stables must be for stallions, mares, yearlings and an extra one for any other horses, the stables though were all empty, everything was fresh but there where no horses, not even dawn in one of the paddocks or loose boxes. there where three corrals, two large, probably for training and breaking in and one small corral for closer contact work. There where also two small barns attached two a normal sized paddock each, i though it might be for mares with foals. there was a small rectangular paddock for arena work and jumping, it was filled with gravel and had an equipment shed nearby. There was also a small tack shed although it was most likely empty, a hay shed and a newly built bunkhouse. A wee way of was a forest containing what my foster dad had called a run down barn of a place it was going to be used to house the foreman and other cowboys who where going to work here, starting at midday. i turned to thank the driver, my parents hadn't come as they where working on a new book called A Silver Spirit, something about a wolf or something. I sighed again, my bags and boxed full of my stuff would not come until this evening until then i was going to sleep in the two story house that would be my new home Attachments:

Lady looked inside the big house in which a strange human had walked into. She neighed and threw up her head. Lady then pawed the ground, in hope that she could get attention from the stranger, who had arrived in a big, shiny roaring thing. She then trotted round the side of the house and saw a fence. She backed up and then soared over it. Grass! And shelter! she thought. She then munched at some grass. It's getting late she thought I'll rest in that thing over there. Lady plodded wearily over to a stable, which the door had been left wide open, and lay down in the warm, comfy straw. Maybe this stranger might like me she thought Maybe it'll let me sleep here. And then she drifted off to sleep...

The sound of a horse made Alanna practically leap from her chair, her book fluttered to the floor, Whispering Back announced the title. The light blondie girl walked quickly to the open door, her bare feet silent on the dark wooden floor. The sound of a gentle thud drew her attention to the side of the large house, hoof prints led to the fence before vanishing and reappearing on the other side. Alanna's Sapphire blue eyes scanned the area in detail and squinted into the slowly setting sun. Her hair fell down her back like the last rays of sunshine dissapearing behind the mountain that started in the fatherest paddock.Horse tracks led to one of the fancy stables. The tall lean girl looked into the stable and started walking along the isle quietly. Soft breathing lead her to one of the large open stalls. She slowly peered inside. Alanna's breath caught silently at the starless coat of a midnight horse, she looked young but was already strong and well developed, her mane and tail looked slightly matted, probably wild thought Alanna. The girl nickered quietly, a perfect imitation to a horses and blew out of her nostrils in greeting to the mare and stepped back and too the side of the stall door, waiting for a reaction.

Lady got up, thrust her head over the door and nudged the young stranger. She nickered quietly to herself and stood, nuzzling the stranger. In the past, Lady had loved to receive treats from anyone who happened to be near her. She neighed again and rubbed her head against the small human, looking for treats.

Alanna laughed as the small mare pushed her muzzle into her stomach, she could feel the little girl sniffed for treats and held up her hands and said, Sorry girl i don't have any on me before giving her neck a rub and checking her shoulder for a brand mark. Alanna stroked her cheek before going into the feed room at the front of the stables and bringing out a full hay-net to hang in the stall. Alanna continued going back and forth to fill a bucket with water, put grain in the manger and put down a thick layer of bedding to make the mare comfortable. She wondered if her unique "ability's" as her best friend used to call them would work with this mare. Alanna remembered the first time anything had happened. She was young, only old enough to be allowed to ride by herself in the paddock next to their old house. She was riding her old pony who was now in retirement and he suddenly fell. The young version of Alanna didn't know what to do, her mum was upstairs in the shower and her dad was out. She had pushed the pony to get back up , and, desperately had thought whats wrong!?! in her mind. To her amazement the old pony had replied, i pulled a tendon and the little girl Alanna had sat there with her mouth open till her mother came running onto the field. Later she had learned more of the connection she had with horses and had also learned they could send her pictures and thoughts. The present Alanna shook her head and gazed at the mare in front of her wonderingly and stood waiting to see if anything would or could happen.

Happily, Lady munched the hay in the haynet hung on the wall. Then, she drank all the water in the bucket she had been given. Lady then pushed the door open with her nose and walked out, but stopped and stood next to the young girl. She had not been trained, but she was eager to have a rider to ride her. She was bored of not having much company.
